This antique Ulus Godang is a traditional ceremonial cloth from the Angkola Batak people of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Worn as a wrapper or shoulder cloth, it was used during important rituals and social events. The textile is made from cotton and decorated with glass beads along the body and borders. It combines several weaving techniques: supplementary weft, twining, and tapestry weave which demonstrates the skill of Batak artisans. Dating to the early 20th century and with Dutch provenance, this piece is a rare example of Batak tribal art.
