This sago sieve from Sentani Lake, West Papua, is a traditional household tool used in the processing of sago, a staple food in Papua. The round frame is made from curved rattan, bound together with natural plant fibers. Inside the frame, a rope net is stretched to filter sago pulp during preparation.
The sieve was collected around 1950
