Pua Kumbu ceremonial textile from the Iban Dayak people of Borneo (Sarawak and Kalimantan), dating to around 1900. Handwoven from handspun cotton using the traditional warp ikat technique and dyed with four natural colours.
The pua shows two rows of eight stylized ancestor figures.
Good condition, some stains due to use and age.
Pua Kumbu textiles were used in ceremonial and ritual contexts and are among the most important traditional textiles of Southeast Asia.
