Ex Dutch collection H.W.

Large ironwood Dayak hampatong figure from Central Borneo, Kalimantan, Indonesia, dating to the mid-20th century. The sculpture is a standing male figure holding a child in front of the abdomen, a motif associated with ancestry and protection in Dayak culture. The figure has a strong presence and a naturally weathered patina consistent with age and outdoor exposure. Hampatong figures traditionally served as guardian sculptures placed near villages, longhouses, or ritual sites among the Dayak peoples of Borneo.
