This ikat textile comes from Sawu (Savu) Island in eastern Indonesia. It was traditionally worn by men as a selendang (shoulder cloth) or selimut (wrap/blanket) during ceremonies and important events.

The cloth is handwoven using the warp ikat technique. The main colors are red, black, and natural.

These textiles were important markers of identity and status within the Greater Blossom Group of Savu.
