This Bali Kamasan painting from Bali, Indonesia, dates to the mid-20th century and is painted on cotton. The work depicts an episode from the classical Arjuna Wiwaha poem. The scene shows Arjuna in meditation in a cave. Heavenly nymphs try to seduce Arjuna before his marriage., a well-known story from Balinese and Javanese literature.
At the lower left and right are the popular clown-servant figures Twalen and Merdah, characters often included in Balinese storytelling traditions. Executed in the distinctive Kamasan style, the painting combines narrative detail with traditional iconography.
