This palm wine container from West Papua is crafted from a gourd and dates to circa 1950. It serves to store the saguweer, which makes the rounds when there are visitors.

The gourd is enhanced with woven wickerwork and rope bindings made from grass fibers.. Subtle zigzag incisions decorate the surface.
