This ikat textile comes from the Savu (Sawu) Islands of eastern Indonesia and belongs to the Greater Blossom Group. It was collected before 1939.

The cloth is handwoven in warp ikat and decorated with flower and leaf motifs, a classic Savu design. These textiles were traditionally worn as a selimut (blanket), selendang (shawl), or men’s mantle.
