Hampatong figure from the Dayak people of Central Kalimantan, Borneo, Indonesia.
Carved from heavy ironwood (ulin), the figure is shown seated with legs drawn up. The surface has a naturally weathered patina with traces of yellow pigment remaining.
Hampatong figures were traditionally used by Dayak communities as protective guardian figures and ancestral representations.
