This Karo Batak tabu-tabu container originates from the Karo Batak people of North Sumatra, Indonesia. Traditionally crafted from a natural gourd wrapped in finely woven plant fibers, this vessel is richly decorated with brass elements. (spout and stop, leaf motifs on the gourd surface). The natural fiber wickerwork is in excellent condition.
Tabu-tabu containers were traditionally used as vessels for drinks as well as storage containers for gunpowder,
