Asmat ancestor head sculpture from Southwest Papua (Indonesia), consisting of two carved hardwood heads placed one above the other. Both heads show carved teeth and a protruding tongue, typical features of traditional Asmat warrior and headhunting art.
This type of object was used as a ceremonial dance stick or symbolic trophy head. The surface shows a beautiful old patina with visible lime residues, confirming ritual use. On the back, a collection number is present.
Collected in 1960 by Kees de Hoogh, during a period when traditional Asmat culture was still actively practiced.
