This Amazonian dance apron from Suriname dates to the mid-20th century. The skirt is traditionally crafted from cotton and decorated with two different types of natural seeds, These seeds were carefully arranged to create movement and sound during ritual dances. The woven wickerwork structure features a typical geometric pattern.
