This rice cutting knife (ani-ani) comes from Java, Indonesia and dates to the early 20th century. The ani-ani was traditionally used to harvest rice by hand and is an important tool in Javanese rural life.

Both ends of the knife are finished with stylized birdhead forms. The front and back feature geometric engraved patterns.

The handle is carved from wood and shows smooth wear from age and use.
